Express Entry is Canada’s fast-track selection system for skilled immigration. It is a fully electronic process designed to identify and invite the best skilled candidates for permanent residency in Canada. The system brings together Provincial governments, the Federal government, and Canadian employers to select top talent efficiently.
Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) launched the Express Entry System on January 1, 2015. This allows Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to proactively attract eligible skilled workers who want to settle in Canada as permanent residents.
Eligible candidates start by submitting an Expression of Interest (EOI). They create an online Express Entry profile and enter the Express Entry Pool. Every candidate receives a score based on the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS).
Candidates are ranked out of a maximum of 1,200 points under the CRS. This score determines their position in the pool. A higher CRS score significantly improves the chances of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for Canada PR.
IRCC conducts draws from the Express Entry pool two to three times every month. The highest-ranked candidates receive ITAs in each draw.
The CRS is not an eligibility criterion but a ranking tool. It ranks candidates who qualify under Canada’s three main federal economic immigration programs: Federal Skilled Worker Class, Federal Skilled Trades Class, and Canadian Experience Class.

The candidates selected under the Canada Express Entry System receive Canadian permanent residency (PR) status directly.
The Express Entry Program includes the following major streams: Federal Skilled Worker (FSW), Federal Skilled Trades Class (FSTC), Canadian Experience Class (CEC), along with previous federal skilled migration programs and various Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) streams.
This system allows candidates to create a free online profile that remains valid for one year. You can renew or re-submit your profile after one year, provided your documents (such as IELTS) are still valid.
Before creating your Express Entry profile, you must complete a preliminary process. This includes getting your educational credentials assessed by a designated Canadian organization like WES (World Education Services) and taking an approved language test such as IELTS or CELPIP to prove your proficiency in English or French.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) holds regular Express Entry draws. These draws select top-scoring candidates, those with provincial nominations, or applicants who have a job offer from a Canadian employer.
Selected candidates receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) and have 60 days to submit their complete permanent-residency application. Missing this deadline results in cancellation of the invitation.
